The name lagoon d’art is a tribute to my 86-year-old French friend, Annie and her husband Ges, who helped me save the 50 year-old Mornington Peninsula Painting and Drawing Group Inc. This group was led by the late inspirational Jeff Williams who completed artwork from a wheelchair and on an oxygen bottle. This all-day life drawing group meets each Tuesday at the Currawong Hall in Mornington from 10am (except school holidays) All welcome.
A recent project has been working on a portrait of 95-year-old Hans Brunner who was vital in exonerating Lindy Chamberlain. Hans was able to prove beyond doubt that her baby, Azaria, was taken and killed by a dingo. It was thought hairs found at the scene were cat hairs - but Hans proved they were dingo hairs using his world-renown book published years earlier and further research using his microscope.
Realist oil painting using traditional techniques is a passion for Lulu Clifton-Evans.
While she paints still life, landscapes and figurative themes she is particularly interested in portraits.
Her work is held in collections in Paris, New Zealand, England, New Caledonia as well as Australia.
Her oil paintings are often a meditation on the beauty of the natural world - from a single flower to the magnificence of the surf coast. Some of her work has resulted from plein air painting at Pt Leo, Shoreham and Gunnamatta through to Frankston and Ricketts Point.
Her work recently featured in the Fairfax Media - Sydney Morning Herald/The Age throughout Australia for her Archibald portrait of 95-year-old
scientist Hans Brunner who helped exonerate Lindy Chamberlain.

Lulu recently helped save the 50 year-old Australian Guild of Realist Artists (AGRA) - thanks to the generosity of artists who believed in the vision to take it Australia-wide. This has included helping to create a hard-copy nationwide AGRA Magazine which promotes excellence in realist art and professional development. Eighteen months earlier she also helped save the historic 50-year-old Mornington Peninsula Painting and Drawing Group which offers long and short poses on Tuesdays at the Currawong Hall in Mornington.
She feels honoured and humbled to win the 2023 Victorian Artists Society Maritime Exhibition Thomas Somerscales Trophy.
She received the the 2023 Victorian Artists Society Curator Award for Best Painting Summer Exhibition and was a 2023 John Dudley Portrait Prize finalist with her painting in the travelling exhibition.
In 2022 she won the Oak Hill Gallery Annual Exhibition.
Lulu teaches traditional oil painting locally.
